在布拉姆斯支持下,德弗札克也不負所望的在世界樂壇佔了一席之地。1892年,德弗札克應聘到美國擔任四年國立音樂院院長,以美國風味的旋律寫成這首《新世界》交響曲,同年十二月十六日由朋友安東‧塞多指揮紐約愛樂首演。這場音樂會對德弗札克來說相當有意義,德弗札克表示:「如果說討論這首交響曲使用『印第安』或『美國』民謠這件事沒有意義,那是騙人的。」作品首演後,德弗札克寫信告訴出版商:「報上說從來沒有作曲家能受到如此的歡迎。卡內基音樂廳裡坐滿了紐約的名人,聽眾們像是見到皇室成員一樣拚命地歡呼喝采。我得從我坐的包廂裡不停地向聽眾鞠躬致意。」  鑑於布拉姆斯的匈牙利舞曲大受歡迎,委託德弗札克創作《斯拉夫舞曲》的西姆洛克有意以風格近似的作品大賺一筆。果然,第一組斯拉夫舞曲首演後,德弗札克立刻在一夜之間名利雙收,雖然《斯拉夫舞曲》是完全根據舞曲精神、斯拉夫民間風格所融鑄而成的獨立創作,沒有直接引用民謠素材,但是曲中充滿了優美的旋律與誘人的魅力。   

 

The Slavonic Dances are a series of 16 orchestral pieces composed by Antonín DvořákOpus 46 and Opus 72 respectively. Originally written for piano four hands, the Slavonic Dances were inspired by Johannes Brahms's own Hungarian Dances and were orchestrated at the request of Dvořák's publisher soon after composition. The pieces, lively and overtly nationalistic, were well received at the time and today are among the composer's most memorable works, occasionally making appearances in popular culture. in 1878 and 1886 and published in two sets as
