Painter Qian Xuan: "Concubine Yang Mounting a Horse"

[Compiled and published by New Sancai] "Yang Guifei Mounting the Horse" was created by the painter Qian Xuan (about 1239~1299) in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty. He is a native of Huzhou (now part of Zhejiang) and is good at painting figures, flowers and birds, fruits and vegetables, and landscapes. After the fall of the Southern Song Dynasty, he lived in seclusion in painting for the rest of his life.

"Concubine Yang Mounting the Horse" depicts the scene of Tang Xuanzong (Li Longji) and the concubine (Yang Yuhuan) preparing for a trip. . There are a total of fourteen people painted in this picture, all wearing Tang suits. The figures are full-bodied, with different postures, and the depictions are vivid.

"The Picture of Yang Guifei Mounting the Horse" has been collected by the royal family. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, due to the theft and sale by the eunuchs in the palace, the "reward" given by Pu Yi (Emperor Xuantong) to his younger brother Pu Jie and other ways of leakage out of the palace, this painting went out of the country and finally entered the Freer Museum of Art in the United States.
