Stock markets from Asia to Europe were hit hard and bond yields fell as investors worried about a recession and bet the U.S. Federal Reserve would need to cut interest rates quickly to stimulate economic growth. European stock markets fell to near six-month lows, and Japan's Nikkei also closed down 13%.
