[Compiled and published by New Sancai] The following are photos of many past US presidents and their wives. Some of them were taken before marriage. See if they have "husband and wife faces"?

△ In 1914, one year after the death of his first wife Ellen Axson, Woodrow Wilson met Edith Bolling Galt. Edith's first husband also died a few years ago. The two married in Washington, D.C., in 1915. Two years later, in 1917, Wilson was elected as the 28th President of the United States (1913–1921) and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Edith proved to be very competent as Wilson's adviser.

△ Elizabeth Virginia married Harry Truman in 1919, decades before he became president in 1945. In 1911, Truman proposed to her before going off to war, but she rejected him. When he came back and could take care of her safely, he proposed again. Truman later served as the 33rd President of the United States (1945–1953).

△ Despite the 6-year age difference, Geneva Doud married Army Lieutenant Dwight D. Eisenhower, 25 years older, in 1916. They were married at her parents' home in Denver, Colorado. Eisenhower served as the 34th President of the United States (1953-1961), and during World War II, he served as the supreme commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. Soldiers in the army called him Ike.

△ Ten days before Jackie Bouvier’s wedding to John F. Kennedy (JFK), the dress designed for Jackie Bouvier by fashion designer Anne Lowe was destroyed in a water pipe burst accident. With the help of a team of skilled tailors and a lot of logistics, the famous designer created the miracle of the presidential wedding. Kennedy later served as the 35th President of the United States (1961–1963) and was assassinated in Dallas, Texas in November 1963.

△ Lyndon B. Johnson’s proposal to Claudia Taylor was a bit unorthodox, to say the least. The two met through mutual friends, and soon after, Claudia told her friend that she felt like Jason was "like a moth to a flame." Well, apparently Jason heard about it and proposed to Claudia on their first date! She accepted two weeks later, and they were married in 1934 in San Antonio, Texas. Johnson took over as president of the United States after Kennedy was assassinated and was re-elected as president in the 1964 presidential election. He was the 36th president of the United States (1963–1969).

△ Long before the infamous "Watergate scandal" occurred, Richard Nixon met his wife Thelma Catherine Ryan during an audition for a community play. They married in June 1940 in Riverside, CA and honeymooned in Mexico. Nixon later served as the 37th President of the United States (1969–1974).

△ Because Gerald Ford was running for the U.S. House of Representatives at the time, his wedding to Elizabeth Ann Bloomer Warren was postponed. Some online commentators said that they were worried that the fact that the fiancée was a divorced dancer might affect the election. Ford later served as the 38th President of the United States (1974–1977).

△ Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Smith were married in 1946. He was 21 and Rosalyn was 18. She initially rejected Jimmy's proposal, only to accept it after he graduated from the US Naval Academy. Carter later served as the 39th President of the United States (1977–1981).

△ At the time, Nancy Davis was a respected actress. In 1949, she met Ronald Reagan, then president of the Screen Actors Guild. The two married in 1952. Ronald's first wife, Jane Wyman, divorced because she disapproved of her husband's political career. Reagan later served as the 40th President of the United States (1981–1989).

△ George HW Bush still remembers the first time he met Barbara Pierce at a Christmas ball. She was wearing a red and green dress. George asked, who is that pretty girl over there? A man named Wozencraft said it was Barbara Pierce from New York who introduced the two to each other. The rest, George said, is history. Public information shows that Barbara is the only woman in the United States who has witnessed her husband (Bush Sr.) and son Bush Junior (Bush Junior) successively become presidents. Bush Sr. later served as the 41st president of the United States (1988–1992). .

△ Hillary Diane Rodham and Bill Clinton met in 1971 when they were students at Yale Law School. Hillary reportedly noticed Bill staring at her in the library. She took the initiative to introduce herself. Three years later, Bill proposed. Clinton later served as the 42nd President of the United States (1993–2001).

△ On November 5, 1977, Laura Lane and George W. Bush met at a backyard barbecue in Midland, TX. Their relationship grew so quickly that they got engaged three months later. Bush later served as the 43rd President of the United States (2001–2009).

△ Like the Clintons, Obama and Michelle met while working at the Chicago law firm Sidley Austin. Initially, Michelle was opposed to the dinner because she saw the distress that romantic relationships in the workplace could cause. However, she softened her stance in 1989. Three years later, they got married. Obama later served as the 44th President of the United States (2009–2017).

△ In 2005, Melania Knauss married Donald Trump. Her dress, designed by Dior, featured more than 300 feet of tulle. The cost of the dress is estimated at $100,000 to $200,000. It is designed with over 1,500 pearls and rhinestones. Trump later served as the 45th President of the United States (2017–2021).

△ In 1972, Joe Biden lost his first wife and one-year-old daughter in a tragic car accident, leaving him to raise his two sons Hunter and Beau alone. Three years later, he met Jill Jacobs, who was still studying at the University of Delaware. They eventually held a small wedding at the United Nations Chapel in New York City on June 17, 1977. Biden later served as the 46th President of the United States (2021–).
