[Compiled and published by New Sancai] Every year at the end of the year, major media will select the news that happened in the past year. Here are the big stories of 2023 compiled by a group of American journalists:

△ January: At the beginning of the new year, there was turmoil in the U.S. House of Representatives. After several twists and turns, Kevin McCarthy was finally elected speaker.

△ February: The U.S. Air Force shot down a Chinese spy balloon that floated through North American airspace. Officials later asserted that the balloon never transmitted any intelligence to China.

△ March: Former President Donald Trump was indicted in New York, the first of four criminal indictments against him.

△ April: A batch of confidential Pentagon documents began to circulate on Internet message boards. Pilot Jack Teixeira, 21, was arrested and charged with leaking information.

△ May: Charles III and Camilla are crowned King and Queen of England. However, it does not appear that he was required to wear formal attire.

△ June: Two maritime tragedies occurred: 1. The implosion of the Titan submersible resulted in the death of 5 people; 2. The sinking of a trawler near the coast of Greece, resulting in the death of more than 500 migrants.

△ July: The Barbenheimer phenomenon broke box office records, attracting a large number of movie fans to the theater to watch "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer", two movies with very different styles, released simultaneously.

△ August: Wildfires swept through the Hawaiian island of Maui, killing 100 people.

△ September: The United Auto Workers (United Auto Workers) began a strike against the "Big Three" automakers and obtained a record 25% wage increase over the next four and a half years.

△ October: The Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel, triggering a bloody conflict that is now approaching the end of the third month.

△ November: The Texas Rangers won the World Series, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks and winning the first championship in team history.

△ December: At the United Nations Climate Change conference, nearly 200 countries agreed to give up fossil fuels. Many hopeful crowds cheered the news.
